Stuck For Holiday Ideas? Try A Cruise
Some holidays require that you leave the modern world behind and “rough it” for a week or two. If you’re into that kind of thing, enjoy it by all means. If you’re looking for something a bit more amenable you might want to try a cruise holiday. On a cruise ship you can have all the perks that come from the electronics store along with a shopping mall, satellite television, and a few fine restaurants on board.
The ports-of-call might still be in a historic state but the cruise ship won’t be. The cruises of today provide every luxury and amenity available so that passengers can be at ease while they are aboard ship. The cruise ships also employ that same technology that allows you to call home on your mobile phone to determine their position and navigate safely to their destinations. Even the smaller ships use GPS technology and sonar.
You can choose to go to a tropical paradise on your cruise or you can go with something a little different. From ports in Africa and South America you can visit the ice covered continent of Antarctica and from Norway, Iceland, or Alaska you can go to the northern seas above the Arctic Circle. Both of these are unique and different experiences that can be educational and rewarding for the whole family.
The ancient wonders of the world are available for viewing at ports-of-call that cruise ships on the Mediterranean and the oceans surrounding Europe, Africa and Asia stop at frequently. There are also river cruises available on the Nile, the Tigris, the Euphrates, the Danube, and the Rein, all providing you pieces of culture and history that have helped to form the modern world that we live in today. You can even cruise along the Tiber or the Thames and view the seats of two empires.
South and Central America offer some of the best coastal and interior cruises in the world. The Panama Canal, Rio de Janeiro, and Amazon River cruises all have a certain allure to them. The Amazon offers perhaps the best natural tour of a region where the presence of man is not readily seen, though his impact has definitely been felt. See the tropical rain forest and stay at a rain forest lodge along the way if you’re looking to get in tune with nature. There’s no place better than the Amazon to do that.
