Whale Watching and Vacationing in Cabo San Lucas

by Paul Garnett

Cabo San Lucas is located at the tip of the Baja Peninsula in Mexico where the Pacific Ocean meets the Sea of Cortez. With these huge bodies of waters, whales often find Cabo San Lucas a haven. Magdalena Bay in Cabo is a favorite place for whales especially during mating season, which is the best time to go whale watching in Cabo.

When it comes to tours and adventures, indeed there are plenty to choose from if you are vacationing in Cabo, and one of these is the whale watching adventure. Plenty of companies will bring you to whale watching sites on tours.

This activity is also ideal if you are vacationing with the family and you are bringing along the children. Especially for kids who are still young for some water sports, whale watching could be a great alternative.

When you sign up or join whale watching tours, it will most often include transportation services from your hotel to the marina, and from there, you have to have another boat ride to the Magdalena Bay – the popular whale sanctuary in Cabo. As the place is the mating and birthing place of these great creatures, you sometimes get to see them with their young.

The excitement of whale watching comes when these huge mammals are spyhopping. This happens when they tend to be ‘standing’ in the water, their bodies submerged except their heads, and they tend to observe their surroundings.

Definitely, joining whale watching tours is one activity everyone in the family can enjoy. Since this activity can take up more of your time in a day, touring companies take care in sending you back to the hotel and of course, bring you to good dining places where you can have a scrumptious dinner after the long adventure.

It is however advisable to allocate your time wisely if you want to have that great whale watching experience during your Cabo vacation. With this, you can enjoy the tour well and you will have a great time with the entire family.

Whale watching can’t be done throughout the year as whales often visit Cabo during the months of January to March, so if you happen to be in Cabo at those times, you can join some whale watching tours. If you are still planning to go to Cabo and enjoy whale-watching adventures, you might want to consider going there on these months too.
