Travel Grant Program For Women Mathematician
Since its apprehension in 1971, The Association for Women in Mathematics (AWM) has been cheering women and girls to continue their careers in arithmetic sciences while creating equal chance and medication for them in the same.
To achieve this purpose, the Association for Women in Mathematics in 1988 started executing NSF-AWM Travel Grant Program exclusively for women.
NSF is the National Science Foundation established by Congress in 1950 with one of its aims to further the advancement in science and support funding in research and education in various fields of science and engineering.
Patron of AWM is National Institute of Standard Technology- a non-regulatory federal department within the United States Department of Commerce.
The NSF-AWM Travel Grant Program smoothens the way for women mathematicians to join numerous investigation alliances in their prescribed arenas thus providing an invaluable likelihood to impel their investigation movements and enhance their clarity in various exploration venues.
By opening entry of women into these meetings, there is an ample opportunity to draw more and more women speakers often found inadequate at many of the research conferences.
There are two types of Travel Grants: The Mathematics Travel Grants and The Mathematics Education Research Travel grants. The Mathematics Travel Grants furnish the applicant’s full or partial expenses for travel and subsistence for a conference and meeting in arena of her specialization.
Under this grant program, up to $1500 is obtainable for internal travel with the circumstances that US air transmitter should be used for travelling abroad.
While the Arithmetic Education Investigation transportation grants also assist full or partial expenditure for transportation and sustenance but in arithmetic or mathematics education investigation.
The candidates must be mathematicians who are attending an examination seminar of math education or math education investigators attending a math seminar with exemption to the mathematics education investigator who is attending a mathematics education investigation seminar.
Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS) and the Division of Research, assessment and interaction (REC) of the National Science Foundation aid funds for these travel grants.
The eligibility for this grant requires that the applicant’s research or conference should be in the field, which is supported by Division of Mathematical Sciences (DMS). Only woman is eligible to apply but she should hold a doctorate or equivalent experience possessing a work address in the USA and if applicant is an unemployed mathematician, then home address is essential.
The candidate is not eligible if she as been rewarded this transportation grant in the last two years and if she has obtained any outside federal grants of more than $2000 yearly.
Each year there are three judgment cycles with due date of applications fixed on February 1, May 1, and October 1 of every year.
