It’s time to put on the boat cover and the Seadoo cover and generally get the cottage ready for the winter. For us a part of cottage life is closing the cottage. I likely won’t totally close up the cottage until after Thanksgiving weekend but I like to get a jump start on some of the chores in the latter part of September. It’s always sad to close the cottage but I actually enjoy the cottage closing chores as I know I can look forward to opening a clean cottage the next year.

That time of year has come again, and my last few weekends at the cottage are spent getting ready to close up the cottage. I don’t drain the pipes and turn everything off until after thanksgiving, but September is generally spent doing more chores than enjoying the lake on the seadoo. Which is just as well, since it can get pretty chilly in the water after the hot summer sun has gone. It’s a great time to get all the end of season jobs done so there’s less to do in the spring.

The end of another year is upon us, and the only thing sadder than not being able to come out to the cottage every weekend, is the thought that I have to pack up my seadoos for the winter. These last few weeks of the summer lake season are spent doing all the closing up tasks, and cleaning and fixing that the cottage and all the lake toys require after another fun summer. It’s not all that bad though, because the cleanup and fixing that is done in the fall just means an easy job of opening the cottage in the spring.

I think I’ve found the perfect lake side vacation for families looking for one of the all inclusive resorts.
