Enjoy Mexico’s Best Hotels and Inns
Mexico offers so much for travelers, from sun-kissed beaches to amazing archaeological sites to fantastic art and cultural activities. Choosing where to go and what do can be a daunting proposition, but it’s best to think about what activities you enjoy the most. Mexico has something for everyone.
Visit the Mayan antiquities of the Yucatan Peninsula or explore the world of the Aztecs. These ancient societies rival Greeks and Romans for architectural genius, and there are dozens of fascinating ruins and, of course, the famed pyramids. Another truly unique vacation idea is taking a train journey through Copper Canyon, which is deeper and covers more area than the Grand Canyon. Of course, there are plenty of fantastic beach towns, from the Pacific to the Gulf Coast.
The list of possible itineraries is nearly endless, but travel writer Karen Brown has narrowed down some of the best in her guidebooks and on her popular website. In addition, Karen Brown’s readers have voted and chosen Mexico’s best hotels and inns.
Zihuatenejo, known for its beautiful bay and beaches, is also home to the Karen Brown Readers’ Choice Award for the “Most Romantic” hotel in Mexico. La Quinta Troppo is a unique combination of bed and breakfast and boutique hotel. It’s small, with just eight individually decorated guest rooms. Several guest rooms have patios, balconies or even a private garden complete with a hammock. Most of the rooms have a view of the bay. The terrace garden offers plenty of places to relax and enjoy a glass of wine or margarita, as well as a lap pool. This Mexican hotel overlooks the ocean, and the beach is just a few minutes away by foot.
You will fall in love with La Casona and its charming 19th-century architecture and elegant decor. The Mexico City hotel was chosen by Karen Brown readers as the recipient of the “Warmest Welcome” award. The hoteliers, indeed, will make you feel right at home and pamper you with many amenities, including a gym and steam bath and a full-service restaurant. The hotel is located in a residential area, out of the bustle of the main city, yet taxi-close to plenty of museums, shops and cafes. The Paseo de la Reforma, one of Mexico City’s grandest boulevards, is just a few blocks away.
Located in the state of Chiapas, Casa Felipe Flores is a perfect spot to bask in Mexican charm. The bed and breakfast, which was chosen by Karen Brown readers as the “Greatest Value” in Mexico, has five guest rooms decorated with Colonial-style furnishings, hand-woven fabrics and Mexican crafts and art. The innkeepers prepare a bountiful, made-to-order breakfast, as well as offering a full-service bar. Meals are often enjoyed in one of the garden courtyards. The Mexican inn is located in the city of San Cristobal de las Casas, one of the country’s oldest Spanish settlements.
Treat yourself to one of Mexico’s most luxurious spots at Quinta Real Guadalajara. The elegant hotel is located about 20 minutes from Guadalajara’s historic city center in a residential area. The guest rooms and suites are posh and sophisticated. The main courtyard with its fountains and gardens is a visual delight. The staff is known for their hospitality and helpful spirit.
